Luke 3:19-20
John the Baptist knew that time was short. He had preached, taught, baptized, and called people to repent of their sins. He pointed them to Jesus. But he also told the truth about Herod’s affair with his brother’s wife. The punishment? John the Baptist was thrown into a dark, damp prison cell beneath Herod’s palace. He knew that death probably awaited him. Probably soon.
Alone in that cell, John needed a word from Jesus to drown his doubt. And Jesus did not rebuke John for doubting. Rather, He sent a promise that would sustain John through his darkest days.
